opportunities of
Hyperconnectivity - an emerging era of communications,
where everything that can be connected to the network, will be connected - at
Futurecom 2007 in Florianopolis, Brazil from October 1-4.
Nortel will once again
provide the wireline network infrastructure for the event
with more than 1,000 Ethernet points spread across the
Centro Sul Convention Center delivering high-speed broadband
network access for show attendees. Futurecom is the premier
Telecommunications and Information Technology event in Latin
America and this year's show expects more than 7,000
industry participants.
"Based on market data,
broadband penetration in the region will increase from 2.6%
to 8.2% from 2006 to 2012, which proves that
Hyperconnectivity will be a reality in Brazil soon," said
Juan Chico, president, Nortel Brazil. "Futurecom 2007 will
provide the opportunity for us to show the market how our
solutions and services can help them better prepare for this
industry trend by helping customers reduce the complexity
and harness the opportunities posed by Hyperconnectivity in
their businesses."
At Futurecom 2007, Nortel
executives will discuss the future of telecommunications on
various panels:

Next BIG Wave in SMB Market", Alex Pierson, general manager
and vice-president of LG-Nortel Joint Venture, October 2, at
9:15 a.m., Pacific Auditorium.

America Telecommunications," Alvio Barrios, president,

- "Increasing productivity
and competitiveness of small and medium companies with new
communication and information software", Juan Chico,

Auditorium.
Additionally, Nortel will
present a wide range of solutions that will help meet the
challenges of an increasingly hyperconnected world
including:
Unified Communications solutions to improve employee
communication and collaboration;
Hosted solutions for carriers and enterprises that
enable service providers, system integrators and channel
partners to deliver applications faster and easier than ever
before, with limited up-front investment and reduced risk;
Carrier solutions such as
Provider Backbone Bridge (PBB) and Provider Backbone
Transport (PBT) that make networks easy to implement,
manage and maintain, that provide scalability, quality of
service and simplicity and fixed and mobile
WiMAX solutions that allow access to 4G wireless,
high-speed broadband anywhere, anytime through any device.
"Hyperconnectivity will
increase the size of the communications ecosystem, which
will cause a corresponding explosion of new, high-bandwidth
applications to further challenge the boundaries of the
network," said Alvio Barrios, president, Nortel CALA. "We
will show solutions to some of these challenges."
